"A HELPING biodiversity hand has given a Prestatyn group support for native plants and nature havens.

Denbighshire County Council’s tree nursery at St Asaph has linked up to support volunteers of the Friends of the Ffrith with the development of their own wildflower planters. Friends of the Ffrith aims to maintain and enhance the park area for use by the community and visitors. The community park received the Green Flag award which is given for work connecting communities with the best parks and green spaces.

Now the group have set up new planters at the site which will hold wildflowers, giving local biodiversity a boost in the area for bees, butterflies and other insects. Plants donated by the council’s Biodiversity team which maintains the tree nursery include, red campion, bladder campion, birds foot trefoil, self-heal, ladies’ bedstraw, cats ear, yarrow and ox eye daisy.

Ian Lifford, chair of Friends of the Ffrith, said: "We are delighted to be able to take part and contribute to the council's wildflower biodiversity project. We are thankful for the council's generous donation of compost and wildflower plants, and for the grant-aid we received for the purchase of the planters from the Gwynt-y-Mor community fund through an application made by Prestatyn in Bloom. “We have plans next year to further extend the wildflower area in the Ffrith Community Park."
