Fred's Blog

We have named this blog in memory of Fred Hobbs BEM who was one of our founding members and knew more about the history of the Ffrith than anyone else. Born in Prestatyn on 28th May 1921 Fred wrote two books, one about the Scala Cinema and the other entitled Prestatyn & Meliden – an Unfinished History. Sophia Drew MBE another founding member and campaigner for the Ffrith steadfastly helped him with his books. The book featured references to the history of the Ffrith ensuring it would not be forgotten by future generations. Fred also gave talks about the Ffrith where he wrote everything by hand including diagrams on wall papered piece of boarding measuring about  6ft by 3ft. He would transport this on top of his old Triumph Herald and was lucky it did not ever take off whilst driving. Fred sadly passed away in February 2017 and it has been an absolute pleasure to have known Fred, he will never be forgotten by the people who knew him.
